Joe Abrams

Partner, Head of Private Debt, Europe, Mercer

Joe is the European Head of Private Debt within Mercer Alternatives, based in London. Joe joined Mercer in 2010, and before joining the Private Debt team was focussed on Fixed Income Research for a number of years - including leading Mercer’s research efforts on global credit and absolute return bond strategies. Joe is a member of the Private Debt Investment Committee, the Private Debt Rating Review Committee, and Mercer's Solutions Group (supporting the delivery of strategic research advice across Mercer's global platform). Before joining Mercer Joe worked as a broker of equity, interest rate and FX derivatives for ADM Investor Services, and also as an equity analyst for an asset management firm based in Jersey focussed on options-based equity strategies.

Joe has a degree in Management Studies from Nottingham University and a Masters in Actuarial Science from Cass Business School.‎ He is also a CFA Charterholder and a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries.

Christopher Anderson

Phil Arbour

Senior Partner and head of UK, Tresmares Capital

Phil leads the UK operations of Tresmares and is a member of the Investment Committee. Phil has 19 years of experience in private capital, equity investment and leveraged finance. Prior to joining Tresmares in 2022, Phil was a Managing Director in ICG’s senior debt platform. Before that, he was a partner at Palamon Capital Partners, a European middle market private equity firm. Before joining Palamon in 2013, Phil spent 10 years at Lloyds Banking Group where he worked in leveraged & acquisition finance. Phil holds a degree in Business Administration from Bishop’s University in Canada, an MSc. Finance & Investment from Durham University, and is a CFA Charterholder.

Joaquin Ardit

Senior Portfolio Manager, Allianz Global Investors

Joaquin is Senior Portfolio Manager in the Global Private Debt unit of Allianz Global Investors. He joined Allianz in 2012 as a fixed income investment manager for the Life and Health insurance companies of Allianz Germany. Previously, Joaquin worked as a fixed income derivatives structurer for JPMorgan in London . Joaquin holds a Master’s degrees in industrial engineering from Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid, a Master in Finance from Imperial College London and an MBA from Columbia Business School in New York.

Johnnie Barnett

Before joining New Amsterdam, Johnnie was a Business Development Director at Allianz Global Investors in London, where he played a key role in growing the firm’s Infrastructure Debt franchise with UK LPs. He previously worked at Northern Trust Asset Management, bringing in their first UK pension fund clients, and earlier spent three years in Mumbai with ICICI Securities in Corporate Finance. He began his career at Schroders Investment Management in 2005.

Johnnie holds a degree in Classics (Ancient Greek & Latin) from the University of Bristol and became a CFA charterholder in 2011.

Gideon Berger

Co-Founder & CEO, LuminArx Capital Management

Gideon Berger is the co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of LuminArx Capital Management LP.

Before launching LuminArx Capital Management LP in 2023, Mr. Berger was a Senior Managing Director and the co-Chief Investment Officer of Blackstone Alternative Asset Management (“BAAM”). Mr. Berger was the Chairman of BAAM’s Investment Committee and was a member of BAAM’s Management Committee. During his tenure at BAAM, Mr. Berger oversaw the management of client asset growth from ~$1bn to ~$80bn. Mr. Berger conceived and led several strategic initiatives that contributed to BAAM’s evolution from a traditional fund of funds to a hedge fund solutions provider with a variety of strategies for both institutional and individual investors and a combination of both direct and fund investments. Prior to joining BAAM, Mr. Berger co-founded a technology startup Ez-Ways.com focused on logistics.

Mr. Berger holds a BA in Mathematics and Physics from Vassar College, an MS in Applied Physics from Columbia University, and a PhD in Computer Science from the Courant Institute at NYU.

John Bohill

Partner, StepStone

Since Mr. Bohill joined StepStone in 2013, he has also been a director at Kish Capital, a distressed debt, real estate opportunities, and non-performing loan investor based in Dublin and Lisbon. Before joining Kish he acquired and operated several businesses on his own behalf and was co-head of European technology and communications at BancBoston Capital, a principal private equity investor.
Mr. Bohill graduated with first-class honors with a BBs in finance from Trinity College, Dublin.

Marco Busca

Head of Indirect Private Debt, Generali Asset Management

Responsible for the management of GenAM SGR’s Private Debt Fund-of-Funds, Marco is in charge of the selection, implementation and monitoring of investments in Private Debt funds managed by global asset management companies. He is also advisor of several Private Debt funds carrying out supervision and vetoing activities. Before he was the Head of the Generali Group CIO Office and an investment manager for the insurance companies of the EMEA region.

Before joining Generali, he worked in Banca IMI (Intesa SanPaolo Group) as a proprietary trader structuring and executing securities financing transactions (repos, securities lending, collateral swaps, TRS) and derivatives novations. He started his career in the Financial Risk Management at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Marco holds a Master of Science in Finance from Bocconi University with an exchange program at Vanderbilt University in Nashville (USA). He earned a Bachelor degree cum laude in Economics from University of Padova. He is certified CESGA. He is currently enrolled in an Executive MBA at ESCP Business School.

Kate has 20 years’ experience of capital raising and capital markets, starting her career in investment banking, equity capital markets at Deutsche Bank, London. Sanjay Mistry is the Head of Alternative Credit and interim Head of Alternatives. As a senior portfolio manager with 25 years investment experience, he is responsible for setting the strategy and all investments within a portfolio, spanning all sub-investment grade credit markets. His mandate covers performing/non-performing, long/short, liquid/illiquid assets in corporate markets and asset backed sectors including infrastructure debt and real estate debt. Pension Protection Fund

The Pension Protection Fund (PPF) is a public corporation, set up by the Pensions Act 2004, and run by an independent Board. The PPF reports to Parliament through the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions. When an employer becomes insolvent and its pension scheme can’t afford to pay its promised pensions, the PPF compensate scheme members for the pensions they have lost. The PPF take over responsibility for paying compensation once they’ve assessed that a scheme can’t afford to buy benefits from an insurance company which are equal to, or more than, the PPF would pay. Before the PPF, members of these schemes could have faced significant financial uncertainty and hardship.

Alternative Credit Council

The Alternative Credit Council (ACC) is a global body that represents asset management firms in the private credit and direct lending space. It currently represents 250 members that manage over US$2 trillion of private credit assets.

The ACC is an affiliate of AIMA and is governed by its own board which ultimately reports to the AIMA Council.
ACC members provide an important source of funding to the economy. They provide finance to mid-market corporates, SMEs, commercial and residential real estate developments, infrastructure as well the trade and receivables business.

I work on a range of clients of different sizes across the UK. I am also a member of the Charities and Endowments team and lead our Alternative Investments research team.

I possess investment expertise, across private markets in particular, from my previous role managing private debt portfolios for a diverse clientele via designated mandates as well as bespoke solutions and providing alternative investments advisory for family offices. As part of the Secondaries team, I manage market specific updates, like the Secondary Market Watch, thought pieces as well as relations with secondary market intermediaries.

James Staunton

James heads Berenberg’s structured finance team in Frankfurt, Germany, where he is responsible for originating and executing leveraged loans supporting mid-market buyouts in the European market. James has been working in the leveraged loan markets for over 20 years. Having started out with Allied Irish Banks plc., he subsequently worked for the acquisition finance teams of Dresdner Kleinwort and Commerzbank. Since joining Berenberg in 2015, he has played a key role in building out the bank‘s direct lending strategy. James holds a Master’s in Business Studies from the UCD Smurfit Graduate Business School and a Commerce (International) bachelor's degree from University College Dublin.

Disha Suresh

Disha Suresh is a Research Manager at PEI Group, where she leads the production of private markets reports, fund manager rankings, and research projects. She began her career at Edge Analytics in Leeds, supporting public sector planning through demographic analysis. She later worked with Leeds City Council on a policy evaluation of their Best Council Plan.

Dominik is responsible for the Private Equity and Private (Corporate) Debt portfolio at WPV Advisory & Asset Management GmbH & Co. KG (WPV AAM). He is heading sourcing, execution and monitoring of numerous Private Equity (i.a. Buyout, Special Situation, Secondary) and Private Debt investments (i.a. Andy Thomson

Andy has been with PEI Group since 2003, working on a number of titles including as Editor of Private Equity International and Senior Editor of Infrastructure Investor. Since H2 2015, he took over responsibility for Real Estate Capital and, in the first half of 2016, became Editor of Private Debt Investor. He is a regular writer for the magazines and websites and has also often contributed to our events as a panel moderator. Prior to joining PEI, Andy had senior roles at venture capital portal Venturedome.com and at Thomson Financial. Andy was voted State Street’s Alternatives Journalist of the Year in 2022.

Alexandra Trapes

Alexandra joined AXA IM Prime in July 2023 and is a senior investment professional within the Private Debt team.

Prior to that, she was a founding member of the Federated Hermes Direct Lending platform, which focused on senior secured loans to mid-market companies. From 2011 to 2015, she was a senior member of the investment team at GE Capital, managing a European mid-cap leveraged loan portfolio, with responsibilities in execution, restructuring, and portfolio management. Additionally, Alexandra spent over six years in leveraged finance underwriting at the Royal Bank of Scotland, concentrating on European large-cap private equity-backed transactions and UK mid-market deals.

She holds a Specialized Master’s in Corporate Finance from EM Lyon School of Management and a Master of Science in Management from ESC Grenoble School of Management.

Alison Trusty

Associate Partner, Aon

Alison Trusty is an Associate Partner within the global investment management team, with 15 years investment experience. At Aon Alison’s research focus is on alternative credit, with expertise across both liquid and private debt markets. She has lead the firm’s research efforts in strategies such as distressed debt, regulatory capital relief and litigation finance. Alison is also a member of Aon’s global private credit group.

Before joining Aon, Alison spent five and half years at Hymans Robertson, a UK Consultancy, where she led the firm’s research and advice on hedge fund strategies and managers. Prior to this, Alison worked as a hedge fund analyst at Olympia Capital Management, a Paris-based multi-strategy fund of hedge fund.

Alison started her career at a private wealth management firm where she was co-portfolio manager for the firm’s discretionary managed AIM portfolios.

Toni Vainio

Toni is a Partner in Pantheon’s Global Private Credit Investment and European Investment Teams. He previously worked in the private markets team at Cambridge Associates, where he advised institutional investors on their private market investment programs and conducted research and due diligence on private market funds, managers, and markets. Toni has an MPhil in economics from the University of Oxford and a BEng in engineering with business finance, which was jointly taught at University College London and the London School of Economics and Political Science. Menno van den Elsaker is Head of Alternative Credits and Dutch Mortgages at APG Asset Management. Since 2017 Menno has been leading the development of Alternative Credits and Dutch Mortgages into stand-alone investment products, which are included in the strategic asset allocation of APG’s clients. In this role Menno has expanded the investment platform in terms of investments, team, (data) infrastructure and investment process. With 23 years of investment experience, Menno has global responsibility for all illiquid and private debt investments, which includes specialty finance, real asset credit, structured credit, direct lending, distressed debt strategies, and mortgages.

Menno joined APG in 2002 and prior to the current role he was Head of European ABS and responsible for European securitization and mortgage investments. Menno is a member of the management team of Fixed Income at APG and a member of APG’s investment committee for capital market and private market investments.

Menno has a MSc. in Financial Econometrics from the University in Amsterdam and is a CFA charterholder.

Reji Vettasseri

Reji is the Lead Portfolio Manager for Private Markets Investments at DECALIA, where he runs a programme that invests through fund investments, co-investments, secondary transactions and seeding deals, with a particular focus on private credit and special situations. Reji has 16 years of industry experience and was previously an executive director at Morgan Stanley Alternative Investment Partners, an executive director at Goldman Sachs Investment Banking and a consultant at Bain & Company. Reji received a B.A. (Hons) in law and a Master of Laws from the University of Cambridge and an M.B.A. with Distinction from Harvard Business School.

Ian Wiese

Ian is a Managing Director at Barings Portfolio Finance where he is responsible for sourcing and structuring transactions. He is also a member of the investment committee. He was previously a Portfolio Manager at MassMutual’s Direct Private Investments team. Sven Gralla

Sven Gralla has been working as Fund Manager Private Debt & Infrastructure Equity at LBBW Asset Management Investmentgesellschaft mbH since the beginning of 2024 and focusses on manager selection within various fund of funds strategies, individual advisory mandates and managed accounts. Previously, Sven Gralla was a Senior Associate at Hauck Aufhäuser Lampe, where he was responsible for setting up a private debt fund of funds with a focus on the lower-mid-market as a member of the investment team.

During his Master's degree, Sven Gralla worked as a researcher for BAI e.V. While she lead investor relations, Kristina primarily focused on business development and fundraising strategy along with oversight and implementation of the firm’s ESG policy. Her engagement commenced in February 2014 in a Consulting role which led to her joining Brightwood full time in May 2018.
